World Water Day Celebration 2024
In commemoration of World Water Day 2024, inauguration of the rainwater harvesting systems and exhibition of model rain water harvesting systems was held at Track 10 Harishchandra Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura on 22nd March 2024.
The celebration was participated by Mr. R.M.W.S. Samaradiwakara, Chief Secretary of the North Central Province, Ms. Asta Zinbo, Director of the Office of Governance and Vulnerable Populations (GVP) at USAID Sri Lanka and Maldives, Prof N S Abeysinghe Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Eng S C Rathnayake Assistant General Manager North Central National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Mrs Suranjee Ammuduwage Zonal Director of Education Thambuththegama, Eng Deva Hapugoda Chairman Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum(LRWHF), Dr Tanuja Ariyananda Chief Executive officer Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum along with government officials from the Anuradhapura District, students teachers and parents of Harishchandra Vidyalaya
During the event, two rainwater harvesting systems, each with a capacity of 16,000 liters, were presented to the school. This was followed by an interactive session where information regarding the importance of rainwater harvesting was shared. Additionally, the students showcased their talents through cultural and modern dance performances and songs, celebrating water and its significance.
The main event was followed by an exhibition, where students from Badulla, Anuradhapura Mannar, and Mullaithivu displayed their final projects of Rain Water Harvesting Model Competition organized by LRWHF . The exhibition received appreciation from the attending officials.
This Water Day celebration served not only as a festivity but also as a significant platform for the community to witness the positive impact of rainwater harvesting on their lives in Anuradhapura. Furthermore, it provided an opportunity to learn from the innovative ideas of the younger generation regarding rainwater harvesting technology.
