ObjectivePromote rain water harvesting as an alternative drinking water supply
Purpose
  • To study the effectiveness of rain water harvesting as a domestic water supply option
  • To identify the prevailing issues and constraints in promoting rain water as an alternative drinking water sources among rural communities
Activities
  • Collection of Data and Information / Data Sources
  • - Reviewing the previous studies
    - Household (HH) survey
  • Sample design and size
  • - Sampling Frame: 2 districts from each province where RWH is most practiced
    - 2 communities in each district
    - HH with RWH systems and 2 HH using other sources
    - Focus group discussion (9x 2x2=36)
Outcome/ Outputs
  • Report on effectiveness of rain water harvesting as a rural water supply
  • Survey of rain water harvesting systems in Sri Lanka
  • Recommendation for future implementation of rain water harvesting projects
