Repair and Rehabilitate the Unutilized RWH system in Anuradhapura
School 1: Paningamuwa Vidyalaya, Madawachchiya
Repair: 2 ferro-cement systems were repaired and rehabilitated with Gutters, first flush, filter, tap stand and tank lid.
School 2: Vahagahabuwewa Vidyalaya, Kagatagasthigiliya
Repairs: 2 ferro-cement systems were repaired and rehabilitated with Gutters, first flush, filter, tap stand and tank lid. One tank had roots penetration into the tank trough the PVC pipes from near by tree. Since the outlet pipe was not retrievable the base of the tank was concreted and new pipe connection was supplied.
School 3: Kohombagaswewa Vidyalaya, Kagatagasdigiriliya
Repairs: 2 ferro-cement systems were repaired and rehabilitated with Gutters, first flush, filter, tap stand and tank lid.
Manual for Operation and Maintenance of Rain Water Harvesting System in Schools in Sri Lanka
Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum (LRWHF),in partnership with Plan Sri Lanka, National Water Supply & Drainage Board – Sri Lanka developed an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual for rain water harvesting in school aims to guide school principles, teachers, parents, members of the School Development Societies (SDS), care takers and students to use the system and deal with operational and maintenance issue by themselves ensuring long term sustainability. This Manual is dedicated to all those in the Government, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), private, government and semi government schools, educational institutes, professional bodies, Research and Development (R&D) institutes, academia and interested individuals who wish to promote and use rain water as safe source of water for drinking and other purposes. The Manual will be translated to Sinhala and Tamil too.
