Project ObjectiveTo promote rainwater harvesting systems as a practical, disaster resilient water supply option for dry zone areas by demonstration and building capacity of officials, professionals, community and school children on rain water harvesting and ground water recharging technology.

Objective 1: Demonstrate and provide disaster-resilient water supplies to vulnerable communities in war affected and dry zone areas of Sri Lanka

Objective 2: Build capacity of officials, professional and communities on rain water harvesting technology to influence the policies and practises of flood and drought management
Project ActivitiesObjective I
  • Construction of 45 Demonstration rain water harvesting systems (storage and/or recharge) in rural schools
  • Establishment of 10 demonstration RWH system in Rural hospitals/ Medical Clinic
  • Construction of 360 Domestic Rain Water Harvesting Systems
  • Rehabilitate disused 200 RWH systems in the project areas
Objective II
  • Build Capacity of Officials and Professionals on Rain water harvesting technology
  • Establishing the training facilities of the Rain Center
  • Training program for local authority officials, planning officers and development officers in each district
  • Training program for professionals
  • Build capacity of community and school children to reduce the Risk of Disaster through establish Mobile Weather Stations in 4 schools
