At a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary celebration and opening of training Center of Lanka Rain Water Harvesting and on 5th January 2017 Hon Dr Mrs Sudarshani Fernandopulle, State Minister for Water Supply and City Planning said “I appreciate the work of Lanka rain water harvesting forum for initiated on rainwater harvesting policy in 2005 and practicing the concept throughout the country”. At this occasion, USAID funded project titled “Safe Disaster – Resilient Drinking Water to Floods and Drought Prone Areas in Sri Lanka” as well as a “Manual on Rain Water Harvesting for Jaffna” written by Dr.Tanuja Ariyananda was also launched. The manual was funded by AUSAID and World Vision Lanka.
Mr Andrew B. Sisson, Mission Director USAID Sri Lanka and Maldives who participated at the ceremony said, “Sri Lankan rainwater harvesting dates back to the 5th century and mimics a technology introduced by Sri Lanka’s ancient kings. This technology has made a comeback over the past decades thanks to organizations like Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum”
