National Energy Globe Sri Lanka Goes to Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum Prestigious Recognition for Sustainable Action

A ceremony was held  at the Rain Center, Pelawatta on 8th of September 2015, to celebrate Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum (LRWHF) receiving the prestigious Energy Globe National Award for 2015.

The award was presented to Mr. M. M. M. Aheeyar, Chairman – LRWHF by Hon Senaka Amarasinghe, Honorary Consult for Austria, for the project implemented in the conflict affected and water scares Vavuniya District of Sri Lanka. This project was supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Energy Globe is today’s most important environmental prize with 177 participating countries and annually more than 1500 project entries. It is given in recognition of outstanding performance in terms of energy efficiency, renewable energy and resource conservation worldwide. Being presented this award is a very high recognition, for ENERGY GLOBE is an internationally recognized trade mark for sustainability.

The special guests at this occasion were Hon Dinesh Gunawardena MP (former Minister for Water Supply and Drainage), Ms. Elisabeth Kvitashvili (USAID Acting Mission Director), Mr. K. Alahudeen Ansar (Chairman – National Water Supply & Drainage Board), Mr. B. W. R. Balasuriya (General Manager, National Water Supply & Drainage Board), Mr. M. S. Jayasinghe (Director Presidential Secretariat), Representative from partners organization such as IWMI, World Vision and Board members of LRWHF Ms. Shanti Fernando, Mr. Deva Hapugoda and Dr. C. S. Weeraratna joined the occasion.
