Training Program on Installation of Mobile Weather Station

Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum (LRWHF) supported by USAID – Sri Lanka organized two training programs on “Installation of mobile weather station“. First training program was held on the 1st June at Moneragala. 25 school children and teachers from 3 districts participated. They were from

  • Bogahamadiththa Vidyalaya, Kirawanagama, Lunuwaththa
  • Angunukolapalassa Maha Vidyalaya, Sooriya-aara, Thanamalwila
  • Manthottama Maha Vidyalaya, Mahanagapura, Ampara
  • KM/ST/ Navithanvely Annamalai Maha Vidyalaya, Navithanvely

Second training program was held on the 13th July at Vavuniya. 30 school children and teachers from 4 districts were participated. They were from

  • Kn/ Iranaitivu RCTMS
  • Mu/ Pandiyankulam Madaya Maha Vidayalaya
  • V/ Andiyapuliyankulam Maha Vidyalaya
  • V/ Agbopura Maha Vidayalaya
  • Mn/ St.Annes Madaya Maha Vidalaya

The initiative of the program was to increase the weather literacy among the next generation of Sri Lankans. The training covered topics such as climate change, meteorological equipment, meteorological data and hands on session how to set up a mobile weather station. All participants were involved in interactive sections in order to get an understanding on equipment and set up the weather station. The training programs were conducted by Mr. Niroshan Sanjaya, lecturer from Faculty of Architecture of Moratuwa University .The certificates were distributed by Dr Tanuja Ariyananda, Director LRWHF and Mr. Niroshan Sanjaya to all participants at the end of the program.
