Research and Development of RWH systems

An Open competition was launched as “Innovative low cost methods and techniques for rainwater storage”. 36 concepts were received by students, engineers and researches. These concepts were reviewed by a panel of judges (Eng. DevapriyaHapugoda, Dr C.S.Weeraratne, Eng NUK Ranatunga and Eng Kokila Ranasinghe. Four best concepts were selected and an award of Rs. 25,000 was awarded. After building the all four the most suitable in term of cost, ease construction was awarded the final Prize of Rs. 75,000.

  • UV treated polythene Shallow Rain Water storage tank by Mr. K.D.K.U. Dissanayake
  • Rice Husk – Cement Tank with Bamboo Reinforcement (Cylindrical) By International College of Business & Technology (ICBT Mount Campus), Sri Lanka.Team members: Eng. Mrs. Charuni Wijerathne, Eng. The first prize of the competition was awarded by United States ambassador to Sri Lanka HE Michele J Sison and Hon Dinesh Gunewardene Minister for water supply and drainage at the symposium of LRWHF, Rice husk – Cement Interlocking Brick Tank by International College of Business & Technology (ICBT Mount Campus), Sri Lanka.
