Handing Over Ceremony of Rain Water Harvesting System at Thalikulam School in Vavuniya

A ceremony to mark the completion of rain water harvesting system at Thalikulam G.T.M.S constructed under the  project titled “Water Security for Resettlement Areas in the North of Sri Lanka through Rainwater Harvesting”, was held on Sunday the 10th June 2012 at 3.00 pm and Honorable Dinesh Gunawardena Minister for Water Supply & Drainage as the chief guest at this occasion. Hon. Governor H.E Major General G.A Chandarasiri also participated as the special guest along with Hon. Rishard Baududine Minister Ministry of Commerce and Industries and M.P and P.S leader of the areas. Officials of Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage which included the Secretary Mr A. Abeygoonasekara and  Chairman and General Manager of National Water supply & Drainage Board Mr K. Hettiarachchi and Mr K.LL. Premanatha was as well as Deputy Director Agriculture attended the occasion. Mr Trevor Houblin and Ms Rehana Cuttan from USAID and Board members of LRWH Chairman Dr C.S. Weeraratna, Ms Shanti Fernando, Mr Lahiru Perera and Mr Deva Happugoda joined the occasion.

Principal of ThalikkulamG.T.M.Mr S. Dharmaratnam welcome the guest. The students of Thalikkulam School welcomed the guest with a dance and song. An exhibition of model rain water harvesting system was also on display by the students.

Rain water harvesting system consisting of 3 x 8000 liter ferro-cement tanks and recharging system connected the dug well was build by LRWHF with funding support from USAID.
